MEV Automobiles, a Manchester-based company, is attempting to accelerate he growth of EVs by reducing one of the biggest barriers to adoption – the price.
Price remains the biggest barrier alongside poor infrastructure, battery range and a limited offer of electric cars, with EVs averaging double the cost of ICE vehicles. MEV cites the average price of an average vehicle of average age, that is a 2012 a VW Golf as £7-8,000.
As a result, MEV is introducing the BeeAnywhere for urban use, allowing cities to drive fast adoption and create an immediate and significant reduction in urban air pollution.
The standard design philosophy has been to replicate a standard car with an electric power train, but the BeeAnywhere has been specifically designed as a two-seat urban vehicle with a range and performance designed for the urban environment. Designed low speed of build, low component costs and maximum recyclability mean the BeeAnywhere can be supplied for a target price in volume of under £10,000.
The company is currently building pre-production vehicles.
