All-electric sales rise

The UK car market made a slight recovery last month with 81,969 new vehicles registered in February, up 1.4 per cent from a year earlier according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Predictably, diesel and diesel hybrid sales fell but alternative-fuelled vehicles rose 34 per cent after almost two years of continued growth. But the real growth, albeit from a small base, was in all-electric options, which increased 106 per cent.

Although all-electric vehicles constitute a small portion of the overall number of vehicles sold, the growth is likely to continue to build as new models are released and the charging network increases.
