Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation is to donate £1m to dementia research, as Alzheimer's Research UK is announced as its new charity partner for 2019.
This is the second time Iceland Foods has partnered with Alzheimer's Research UK, after the retailer supported the charity’s pioneering research programmes between 2011 and 2013. Since 2010, Iceland Foods has raised a total of £15m for dementia charities.
Sir Malcolm Walker, founder and executive chairman of Iceland Foods, said: “We desperately need more effective treatments to drastically improve the lives of people living with dementia and that’s why I’m so thrilled that we are supporting Alzheimer's Research UK this year. Iceland Foods’ £1m commitment to the UK’s leading dementia research charity will hopefully lead us closer to the crucial scientific breakthroughs that will result in more treatments and ultimately a cure.”
The IFCF has focused principally on fundraising for dementia research since 2010, donating £10m to UCL Dementia Research to help fund construction of the London hub of the new UK Dementia Research Institute, more than £3m to Alzheimer’s Research UK, and over £1m to the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland.
