Charity issues nature loss warning to business leaders

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has launched an advertising campaign urging corporate leaders to ‘confront the escalating costs of nature loss and climate change’.

The environmental charity is using digital ads in Canary Wharf and the financial media to call on business chiefs to support nature recovery and look at their policies and strategies around the ‘mounting consequences’ of climate change, including extreme flooding and wildfires.

One advertising creative features a young orangutan embedded into an invoice, stating ‘endangered’ for the quantity’ line.

This use of an invoice in the advertising “reminds us that the total cost of inaction on climate change is increasing at a devastating rate”, said WWF head of partnership and business communication Rob Wood.

He added: “The cost of nature loss and climate change on businesses and economies is loud and clear. Extreme weather, such as the UK heatwaves and drought we saw this summer, disrupts operations, damages infrastructure, increases insurance costs, affects agricultural production, interrupts supply chains and reduces productivity.

“These risks can directly impact business performance, investors, staff and customers.”
