Skipton Building Society has named Help for Heroes as its next charity partner.

Over the three-year partnership the building society aims to raise more than £1.6m for the military charity, to support its programmes helping veterans and their families.

The charity was selected by the building society’s members at its annual general meeting.

Skipton Building Society has made the announcement as part of its commitment to pledge 1% of its pre-tax Group profit annually to charitable causes focused on financial wellbeing, housing, and energy efficiency.

“We are delighted to launch our partnership with Help for Heroes, an organisation whose values and purpose strongly align with our own,” said Skipton Building Society group secretary and general counsel David Travis.

“As a mutual, we are committed to helping build better futures, and we know that having a safe, suitable home is fundamental to people’s wellbeing and independence.

“Through this partnership, we have an opportunity to support veterans and their families in a meaningful way, helping to remove barriers, improve quality of life and create positive, lasting change.”

The charity’s chief executive James Needham added: “We are deeply grateful to Skipton and its members for choosing us to be their newest charity partner.

“Demand for our services is at its highest level, and we are supporting more people than ever before.

"However, there are still veterans living in homes that no longer meet their basic needs, where they’re unable to bathe safely, cook a meal, or move around their home without risk.

“The difference this support will make in reducing waiting times for housing- related assessments will be life changing.

“Through this partnership we can transform unsafe houses into accessible homes, so those who have served to keep us safe can live with dignity and independence.”
