The charitable arm of shoe retailer Pavers has handed £1,000 each to 18 charities and other good causes that have been nominated by its customers.

Pavers Foundation has handed out the money through its Customer Causes initiative, which saw each of its stores UK wide give money to local good causes.

Cardiff store customer Suzi Thomas, who nominated Ysgol y Deri SEN School, said: “This school supports 500 disabled and special needs children aged 3–19. They provide essential education, life skills and life enhancing experiences to students as well as supporting their families.”

Among others benefiting is St John’s Hospice, which was nominated by Doncaster customer Tracey Gaughan.

She said: “This hospice like so many others, care for local people and make a real difference to everyone they care for. They are the only provider of specialist palliative care in Doncaster.”

Another is Port Men in Sheds, nominated by Burleydam customer Paul Heeney, who said: “This organisation provides a social and working environment atmosphere to combat loneliness & mental illness for retired and unemployed men.”

Other charities to benefit include Forth Valley First Responders, Magpas Air Ambulance, Music Man Project Southend and Telford Models for Heroes.

To date its Foundation has handed more than £2.5m to good causes.
