Low emission cars sales fall

The UK new car market declined for the fourth consecutive month, with alternatively fuelled vehicles sales falling for the first time in 26 months.

However, whilst this might be negative news, it also signals a change with plug-in hybrids falling by 50.4 per cent, but fully electric battery cars actually growing by 61.7 per cent – however this significant rise was not enough to offset the fall of hybrids (but plug-in and non-plug-in).

The figures were released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and might lead to the conclusion that purchasers are in less impressed by plug-in hybrids as electric cars become a tantalising future option, but are waiting for prices to fall or more options to arrive.
