Retirement home developer’s foundation hands dementia charities £95,000 in grants

Retirement home developer McCarthy & Stone's charitable arm has handed £95,000 in grants to 18 charities and community groups that support people with dementia.

Each of the recipients of the McCarthy & Stone Foundation’s annual Dementia Grant Programme will receive individual grants of up to £7,500 to deliver support such as memory cafes, peer support, respite care, wellbeing activities and specialist support for carers.

“The programme is specifically designed to strengthen community-based support - with a particular focus on those living in areas of high deprivation - and ensure smaller organisations can continue delivering essential services to those affected by dementia,” said the funder.

Foundation trustee Andrew Burrett added: “Small charities and community groups play an essential role in supporting people living with dementia and the families and carers around them.

“We know unrestricted funding is particularly valuable, as it enables them to respond flexibly to the needs of the people they support.

“Through our Dementia Grant Programme, we are proud to help these organisations continue providing compassionate, life-changing services within their local communities.”

Among those to receive grants is Neath Port Talbot Me, Myself & I, Devon Business and Education Trust, and Bradford & District Senior Power.
