Renewable energy record confirmed

The annual Digest of UK Energy Statistics, published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, provides definitive figures for 2018 for the first time showing that low carbon electricity generation (renewables and nuclear) hit a record 52.6 per cent and coal dropped to a record annual low of 5.1 per cent.

Renewables provided 33 per cent of this (up from 29.2 per cent in 2017), with wind providing 17.1 per cent of the UK’s electricity last year (9.1 per cent from onshore wind and 8 per cent from offshore).
