Ordnance Survey (OS) has launched a two-year charity partnership with Scope to help it tackle digital exclusion experienced by disabled people.
Staff at the mapping organisation voted to partner with the charity due to the work it carries out providing digital access for people with disabilities, as well as its focus on careers guidance, CV support and education.
OS staff will fundraise for the charity, as well as work with Scope to ensure its online content is accessible for all.
“We were blown away by Scope’s application and the way it demonstrated the real impact its work has had in helping disabled people in Britain,” said OS general counsel Jon O’Meara.
“We are so excited to join forces to create an even bigger impact over the next two years, particularly in tackling digital exclusion that many disabled people experience.
“Here at OS, we’re all looking forward to creating some fun, accessible and memorable fundraising events for Scope.”
Scope executive director of fundraising Amanda Mitchell said: “We’re really looking forward to helping them to make digital inclusion for their colleagues and customers a reality.
“The impact of the fundraising activities they’re planning, cannot be underestimated.”
She added: “Together we can ensure that more disabled people have the tools, support, and accessible technology needed to explore, connect with, and influence the world around them.
“Scope believes that disabled people should be able to navigate the world equally. Yet for millions, digital exclusion remains a major barrier to accessing information, community resources, employment, services and education.
“Our work directly tackles these barriers so disabled people can confidently connect with the places, opportunities, and services that matter most to them.”
OS launched its search for a charity partners last year as part of its focus on improving access for underserved communities, career support and the use and development of artificial intelligence.
Previous OS partnerships have included link ups with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Southampton Children’s Hospital, Solent Mind, Rose Road and Women’s Aid.
