A total of £200,000 has been raised for healthcare transportation charity Two Wheels for Life following fundraising at last weekend’s Grand Prix of Champions motorbike event at Silverstone.

Two Wheels for Life is the official charity for event organisers MotoGP and provides transport for health services to remote communities in The Gambia, Nigeria, Lesotho, and Malawi.

At the event the charity hosted a series of auctions and activities.

This included offering fans the chance to get close to the bikes and riders, with 750 guests attending the charity’s MotoGP experience day with exclusive access to the paddock.

Fans also made donations to the charity to ride a MotoGP simulator. Using this the fastest lap around the Silverstone circuit was achieved by 16-year-old Kacper Dubanowski.

Two charity auctions also took place with prizes including Spanish rider Alex Marquez’s replica helmet and boots. A set of the late Barry Sheene replica championship leathers from Dainese was also among items.

“The GP of Champions at Silverstone is our biggest and most important event of the calendar year, and we are so proud that the motorcycle community has come together to support our mission at Two Wheels for Life with our largest fundraising total ever," said the charity’s co-founder and chief executive Andrea Coleman.

“We want to thank our partners at MotoGP and Silverstone, as well as all the riders and teams for their incredible generosity in helping make this our biggest GP of Champions yet.”
