Universal Tankers has been awarded the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award for its commitment to veterans, reservists and military families.
Work carried out by the waste disposal and clean water firm includes providing additional leave for annual military training and deployment as well as offering guaranteed interviews for veterans and those looking for work after leaving the armed forces.
The Middlesbrough based firm also has a commitment to offering an inclusive and supportive environment for reservists and their families.
“Supporting the Armed Forces is more than a badge for us; it’s embedded in the way we recruit, train, and care for our team across all levels of the business,” said the firm’s managing director Toby Gunn.
“Veterans, reservists, and military families bring a wealth of experience, resilience, and a strong work ethic that align perfectly with the demands of our industry.
“Their contribution to Universal Tankers has been invaluable, from operational roles to leadership positions, and we’re honoured to support their continued careers outside of the Forces.
“This recognition is a reflection of the values we uphold as a business: respect, teamwork, and service to others. We see it as both a milestone and a motivator to keep raising the bar in how we support those who have served.”
MoD defence relationship manager Jan Cox added: “Immense congratulations to all at Universal Tanker Solution on attaining the ERS Gold Award. Thank you for all that you do on behalf of Defence and Defence People. Your support is highly valued and hugely appreciated.”
Among those supported by the company is Gareth Ratcliffe, a veteran and HGV driver at Universal Tankers.
“After leaving the Forces, finding a supportive employer was a top priority,” he said.
“Universal Tankers allowed me to use my experience in a civilian role and continue growing in my career.”
The firm also backs veteran specific charities, including Tom Harrison House, which supports those who have left the armed forces are and struggling with addiction issues.
