Meta links up with crowdfunding platform to boost giving

Meta has linked up with crowd funding platform GoFundMe to develop new tools aimed at giving charity fundraisers a higher profile on its Instagram and Facebook social media platforms.

The link up with GoFundMe will see new sharing features added to charity fundraisers taking place.

Integration with Instagram Stories, a call to action donate button and dynamic progress bars are also included in posts to further boost fundraising.

One in five of GoFundMe pages are for a charity.

The GoFundMe integration with Instagram launches at the end of this month, with Facebook to follow afterwards.

GoFundMe hopes the new features “will enable more support for charities across Instagram and Facebook”, which are used by five billion people globally.

“This integration will unlock powerful new channels for kind-hearted Britons to raise millions more for charities – and give organisations the tools to inspire a new generation of supporters to make a difference for the causes they care about,” said GoFundMe chief executive Tim Cadogan.

Notable recent fundraisers through GoFundMe have included a campaign by Joseph Adams to raise money for Altrincham Football Club Community Sports disability sports and youth club programme.

This has seen Joseph run ten 10k races in ten European countries by September. So far, he has raised £415,429.

Another is fundraiser Ashley Cain’s benefit for the Azaylia Foundation ‘s childhood cancer PhD scholarship programme, which has raised £217,466 so far.

For his fundraiser ultramarathon competitor Ashley is looked to cross Britain three times, by running, cycling and kayaking, over three months.
