IKEA Greenwich aims to be a good neighbour

IKEA UK is partnering with the Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency (GCDA) ahead of the new IKEA Greenwich opening in February. Through the collaboration, IKEA Greenwich and GCDA will work to promote healthy and sustainable living across local Greenwich communities.

IKEA Greenwich has already donated equipment for GCDA-run events and will encourage its 500 co-workers to volunteer for the organisation, providing the social enterprise with a platform to run community courses and workshops.

Helen Aylett, IKEA Greenwich Store Manager, said: “We’re committed to being a good neighbour in the local community and to create real, impactful change. For that reason, GCDA is the perfect partner, already closely working with the people of Greenwich. The new features within IKEA Greenwich are the ideal space for GCDA to run events and we are looking forward to exploring how we maximise opportunities together to have a positive impact in the local area.”

As the first leading sustainable IKEA store in the UK, IKEA Greenwich will offer unique facilities, workshops and free green spaces, which include a roof garden, roof pavilion and Learning Lab. These will give customers, creative partners (including GCDA) and the local community opportunity to explore prolonging the life of products, grow food, upcycle and live a healthier and more sustainable life at home.
