Potato producer Albert Bartlett has delivered 600 tonnes of surplus fresh potatoes through a link up with food distribution charity FareShare.

Through the partnership 25 truckloads of potatoes have been handed to the charity to distribute among food banks and other support groups. The donation from the form will help create an estimated 1.4m meals.

“This special delivery is a testament to our ongoing partnership and our shared mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger,” said Albert Barltett sales director John Heginbottom.

“We know the positive impact that nutritious, fresh produce can have for families, and we are delighted that this delivery will help provide thousands of healthy meals to people facing hardship.”

The Charity’s head of fresh produce Emma Brown added: “We are enormously grateful to Albert Bartlett for their ongoing support for FareShare.

“Their surplus potatoes will be redistributed across our network of charities and community groups and make a valuable contribution to getting good food to people in need, rather than letting it go to waste.

“Regular supplies of potatoes enable these groups to create hearty, nourishing meals for the people they support, alongside providing other vital services. At a time when demand for food support is higher than ever, this exceptional delivery from Albert Bartlett will make a huge difference.”
