Father’s diagnosis prompts bike firm owner to support Parkinson’s UK event

Jorvik Tricycles has become lead sponsor for Parkinson’s UK’s Yorkshire Walk fundraiser this month due to its founder's personal connection to the charity's work.

The company was launched more than a decade ago by James Walker to create accessible bikes for people with mobility issues after his father’s diagnosis.

As part of the firm’s support for Parkinson’s UK Walker has announced that it will support the charity at its fundraising event, which takes place in Leeds on 19 July.

“Parkinson’s UK has always been central to the Jorvik Tricycles story, and being able to contribute to the charity’s work in this way has been really special,” said Walker.

“We’re really looking forward to the event and aiding the charity in its mission to support people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.”

The firm’s first tricycles were built in Walker’s living room in York. The bikes are now sold to more than 37,000 customers globally.

Ailsa Dragan, Parkinson’s UK Community Fundraiser in Yorkshire added: ”It’s fantastic to have Jorvik Tricycles sponsoring our Yorkshire Walk for Parkinson’s to help raise money for Parkinson’s Nurse Appeal.

“The appeal aims to raise £9 million over three years to help increase the number of Parkinson’s specialists, giving thousands more people with Parkinson’s access to the expert care they need."
