The Cambridge Building Society has handed domestic abuse survivors’ charity The Angels Foundation UK a three-year grant worth £50,000 a year .
This multi-year grant is the first of its kind for the building society, which is boosting its funding to good causes from 2025 to mark its 175 anniversary. From this year it will donate £175,000 a year from its profits to good causes, an increase of £15,000 a year on annual awards made since 2020.
The funding will be used by The Angels Foundation UK to expand its services to offer long term support to survivors of domestic abuse in Cambridgeshire. It will also help it find new premises as well as increase its workforce and network of volunteers.
The cements existing links between the charity and the building society, which handed it a one-off grant in 2023 and made it a community partner last year.
“We continually look for new ways to make the difference and so – to celebrate our 175th anniversary – we have made our first multi-year grant that we hope will be transformational for The Angels and the vital help they provide to survivors of domestic abuse,” said the building society’s chief executive Peter Burrows.
“I am delighted to continue our partnership with The Angels and to see their continued impact in our community grow with our support.”
The charity’s founder and chief executive Caroline Deeprose added: “We are thrilled to begin a new partnership with The Cambridge Building Society.
“Their generous award will help us grow, build capacity and support more survivors of domestic abuse throughout Cambridgeshire to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
The Cambridge revealed earlier this month it had awarded £32,820 to five charities – Cambridge Women’s Aid, Cambridge and District Citizens Advice (CDCA), The Sick Children’s Trust, Making Space and Wintercomfort.
