Black Capital Group partners with former England football star’s mental health charity

Mindflow, the charity led by former England football star Trevor Steven, has been selected as the 2026 charity partner of built environment and public procurement firm Black Capital Group.

The partnership will focus on supporting the mental health needs of construction workers and has been announced during Mental Health Awareness Week (11 -17 May).

Over the year Black Capital Group will fundraise for the charity and work with it to raise awareness of mental health issues in the construction industry to ensure it is treated with the same importance as physical health.

Planned activities include a five-a-side football tournament, golf day and charity dinner in September.

Mental health awareness will also be promoted among Black Capital Group staff and partners.

Black Capital Group is warning that two construction workers take their own life each day in the UK “highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness and support across the industry”.

“We are incredibly grateful to Black Capital Group for choosing Mindflow as their Charity of the Year, said Steven, who is chief executive of the charity, which uses football to engage construction workers in discussions around mental health.

“Partnerships like this are so important in helping us continue and expand our work across the construction industry.

Steven, who was capped for England 36 times and played for Burnley, Everton, Glasgow Rangers and Marseille during the 1980s and 1990s, added: “The funds raised will directly support our initiatives on site, allowing us to reach more workers, raise greater awareness, and provide the support that is so desperately needed.

“It’s inspiring to see organisations like Black Capital Group stepping forward and leading the way in prioritising mental health, and we’re excited to work together to make a real and lasting impact.”

Black Capital Group founder and director Robbie Blackhurst said: “The construction industry is a fantastic one, full of opportunity, innovation and pride in place.

“But it can also be high pressure and, at times, isolating.

“That’s why it’s so important for workplaces to foster a genuine sense of community and create environments where people feel safe to speak openly. Mindflow is doing exactly that through the power of football, bringing people together, breaking down the stigma, and creating space for important conversations.

He added: “Their ambition to set a clear standard of mental health provision on site is something our industry has needed for a long time.
