Aberdeen airport names Scottish Action for Mental Health as charity partner

Aberdeen International Airport has named Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) as its official charity partner for the next two years.

The charity, which runs support programmes in Scotland, has been selected following a vote among staff.

Passengers can directly contribute to fundraising for SAMH through collection globes in the airport, which accept any currency.

Support by the charity includes its walk in mental health hub centre The Nook in Glasgow, with a second due to open in Aberdeen in the summer.

“We are thrilled to partner with SAMH,” said the airport’s operations director Robert Paterson.

“Their pioneering work in The Nook, combined with vital suicide prevention and outreach services, aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting wellbeing at our airport.

“We look forward to working together to raise awareness, engage passengers and staff, and make a meaningful impact across the north-east.”

SAMH director of fundraising and major appeal Hazel McIlwraith thanked staff at the airport for selecting the charity.

She said: “We can’t wait to work together to raise funds and awareness for Scotland’s mental health.

“This partnership comes as we are just months away from launching The Nook in Aberdeen, which will provide free, accessible mental health support seven days a week and add to SAMH’s existing services in the North East.

"Together, we can help create a Scotland where anyone can ask once and get help fast with their mental health.”

The airport has raised more than £260,000 through previous charity partnerships.
