Car maker Stellantis has agreed to significantly expand their partnership with Archer to produce electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The goal is for Stellantis to mass produce Archer’s eVTOL aircraft as its exclusive contract manufacturer.
Archer is creating the Midnight eVTOL aircraft that should be sustainable, quiet and carry four passengers plus a pilot. It will have a range of 100 miles with a charging time of approximately 10 minutes in-between 20 minute flights.
Stellantis will provide up to $150m in equity capital for potential draw by Archer at its discretion in 2023 and 2024, and intends to increase its strategic shareholding through future purchases of Archer stock in the open market.
Stellantis will also work with Archer at its manufacturing facility in Covington, Georgia at which the companies plan to begin manufacturing the Midnight aircraft in 2024.
Stellantis was formed in 2021 as a merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the French PSA Group. The company is headquartered in Amsterdam.
