Media company donates advertising space to Refugee Week across several titles

Independent Media Group (IMG) is donating advertising to Refugee Week, as well as refugee gifting organisation Choose Love and the charity War Child across several of its titles.

The free advertising is being offered to the good causes to mark Refugee Week (16-22 June) and Refugee Day (20 June).

This in includes £30,000 of advertising with a third each between the three causes. The media group’s Huffpost UK, Buzzfeed UK and Seasoned will also donate advertising to all three good causes.

Meanwhile, Tasty UK will be collaborating with Refugee Week in its content, with chef and food influencer Lucy Sally Sommer's Simple Act of Share a Meal project, and rapper and TV chef Big Zuu's curation of a Levantine Supper Club menu with Chef Majeda Khoury.

Independent UK editor Chloe Hubbard said the paper has “a proud, unwavering commitment to vulnerable and marginalised people, which is constantly evident in our editorial and our campaigning, including our Refugees Welcome work”.

She added: “That’s why we are continuing to support Refugee Week and are once again partnering with the vitally important War Child and Choose Love.

“Never has it been more crucial to hear the stories from those with lived experience, the facts rather than the fiction, and come together to support the people who are escaping unimaginable horrors, just as generations have so proudly done before us.”

Refugee Week UK coordinator Lara Deffense said: “We’re especially delighted that Independent Media is going big for Refugee Week this year.

“The media plays such a vital role in shaping the stories and conversations we have around migration and displacement, and it’s brilliant to see national outlets using their platform to share powerful voices and stories that speak to both the heart and mind.”
