Chancellor Phillip Hammond is expected to use the Spring Statement to unveil a set of green measures.
Politically it is brave measure, given that despite action and good news on climate change and renewable energy the government has, so far, failed to gain much political goodwill from its policies, with many groups attacking the reduction in subsidies.
It is likely that measures Hammond will propose will include greater energy efficiency in new homes and mandating low-carbon heating. Mr Hammond has vowed to halve the energy use of new-build homes by 2030.
The Chancellor has also mulled the ability for passengers to demand that airlines offset their carbon emissions when booking their flights.
