Aldi is giving away £5,000 in shopping vouchers to students to mark the start of fresher’s week at universities.

It is to hand £10 vouchers to 500 students to help cover the cost of their shopping. To be in with a chance of being handed a voucher students are urged to email freshers@aldi.couk with their name and age from a valid university email address to tell the store what dish they aim to create with the voucher.

The deadline to apply is midnight 7 October.

“Freshers Week is an exciting time, but whether students are leaving home for the first time or heading back after summer, building healthy routines on a budget can be a challenge,” said Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield.

She advises students that “meals don’t need to be complicated, and you don’t need an extensive repertoire. Try picking three easy bases or meals such as a jacket potato, pasta or stir-fry, then rotate the toppings and added extras each week for something that’s easy to return to”.
