Football club partners with traumatic bereavement charity

Football club Walsall has named a charity set up to support victims of traumatic bereavement as its official partner.

Smile for Joel was set up by Suzanne and Owen Richards following the passing of family members and fans of the club Ade, Pat and Joel, who died in the 2015 Tunisian Terror attacks a decade ago.

It offers a range of support for families impacted by loss, including counselling and financial assistance.

“Owen and I are truly honoured that Smile for Joel is to be named an official charity partner for the 2025/26 season,” said Suzanne Richards.

“This meaningful tribute to my son Joel, my dad Pat, and my brother Ade helps keep their memory alive in the stadium and with the team they loved so much.

“It also gives us a powerful platform to raise awareness and extend the vital support we offer to families across the UK affected by homicide, with strength, compassion, and hope.”

The football clubs head of commercial Adam Brearley added: “We are proud to be supporting Smile For Joel for the upcoming season and feel it’s the perfect way to pay tribute to Ade, Pat and Joel on the 10th anniversary of their passing.

“It’s a charity very close to our hearts and we’re looking forward to working alongside and supporting Suzanne, Owen and the team.”
