Asia-Pacific green bonds hit a new high

According to a report in the FT from Dealogic data, green bond issuance in the Asia-Pacific region has now reached a new high with $18.89bn having been raised in the year to date.

The record has been achieved with 44 green bond issuances that were open to international investors, and compares with $17.68bn across the whole of 2018, and one $500m deal in 2013.

China reportedly accounts for 43 per cent of the regional total, with South Korea following ($8.13bn this year in China, South Korea$4.23bn).

Social and sustainable bonds have also boomed, when launched in 2016 for regional issuers, one deal worth $500m was produced, this year $7bn worth have been created, with the majority in South Korea.
