Greene King to join Innovation Gateway

Greene King is partnering with the Innovation Gateway to accelerate its progress in reducing its carbon footprint, energy use and waste generation of its buildings, joining up with Tesco, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Heathrow Airport among others.

Innovation Gateway is an alliance of leading organisations working together to transform the performance of their buildings with high impact innovations. The partners share experience and innovative solutions to reduce cost and environmental impacts across energy, waste, water and wellbeing.

The partnership will enable Greene King to unlock insights from diverse industry sectors towards the next breakthrough innovations, and the pub group hopes to find innovative and sustainable solutions to accelerate its progress and improve the overall energy, waste and water efficiency in its properties.

Water strategy is one example of Greene King implementing innovative ways to investigating water leaks across the buildings with a water consumption saving equivalent of 676,000 pints every day.

Gavin Worthington, senior purchasing manager at Greene King, said: “As a responsible retailer with a focus on sustainability, joining the Innovation Gateway is a natural fit for us. We look forward to working alongside like-minded partners to solve common challenges; finding innovative solutions that help us to further develop our sustainability commitments.”

So far, the platform has sourced over 700 targeted innovations from around the world to address partners’ challenges. Partners have identified savings of millions of pounds per year, and substantial reductions in CO2 and water from innovations sourced and piloted through the programme
