EU funding of €750m for clean energy infrastructure

The EC is releasing €750 million of funding for key European energy infrastructure projects that will help improve energy security and aid renewable energy growth.

An interconnected network is essential to create an ‘ Energy Union’ of states, and allow sustainable energy to be shared across Europe, with commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete saying: "Europe's energy system is moving fast from an energy system of last century to a low-carbon, more digital and consumer-oriented one. The energy transition is well underway in Europe, with record levels of renewable energy and rapidly falling costs. Europe's energy infrastructure must develop in the same direction and with the same speed to fully support this energy transition towards a climate neutral Europe”.

With several EU states lagging behind, including major economies such as Germany, the EU is aware that progress must be made if it is to meet its own climate neutral goal by 2050.
