Insurers most praised by NGOs

Insurance companies top a ranking of corporates receiving most praise from NGOs for their leadership on environmental issues, human and animal rights.

AXA and Allianz are in first and second place, with Swiss Re also making the top ten. The quarterly ranking is produced by global research and strategy consultancy SIGWATCH, based on its monitoring of more than 9,000 NGOs.

According to SIGWATCH analysis, insurers have risen up the rankings in Q2 due to their leadership on the environment, including a growing commitment to divest from fossil fuels. This is a departure from previous rankings which have been dominated by the retail sector.

Companies most praised by activists in Q2, 2018:
1. AXA
2. Allianz Group / Allianz SE
3. Gap
4. Unilever
5. Citigroup
6. Aldi
7. McDonald's
8. Swiss Re
9. Sodexo
10. Barilla Group

Unilever finds itself in the strange position of being both one of the most praised and the most criticised corporates, being commended for its animal welfare efforts and its transparency on nutrition but reproached for human rights and environmental issues such as its use of plastics.
