Green bond issuance to stall then grow

Green bonds had their second highest quarter, managing to reach $47 billion according to SEB, the Swedish commercial bank. But the good news is offset by global political uncertainty and potential interest rate rises that SEB sees as damping issuance in the immediate near future.

However, in the medium-term, the bank predicts a positive outlook, with green bond issuance likely to reach $185 billion this year, but a possible total of $210 billion being within reason with activity in new sectors and large economies picking up. This is an increase in the bank’s May forecast of $175 billion.
