Germany moves renewable deadline forward

Germany is to try and obtain all of its energy from renewable sources by 2035, an earlier date than the previous estimate of “before 2040”.

Although Germany has long been warned of the potential issues of being dependent on Russian gas, the currently war in the Ukraine has reignited its ambitions to wean itself from dependency, and in addition the German government will maintain nuclear power, something that it has promised to remove as part of its pact with the green party.

However, the current situation is also likely to dampen plans to move to more Hydrogen use as the Ukraine and Russia were both potential suppliers of that energy source.
