EU: recovery will be green one

The EU’s outline plans for economic recovery following the COVID-19 outbreak will take into account green policies.

Meeting via video, the leaders noted that any plans should be consistent with the “green transition” and mindful of climate change. However the plans are still very much in outline, and before the outbreak the aim of the EU to be fully carbon neutral by 2050 were being stymied by Poland’s reluctance to give up coal without greater financial compensation. A position that has hardened rather than soften as a result of the crisis.
