BNY Mellon and Newton donate Boat Race

BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management have announced they will donate the sponsorship of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race to Cancer Research UK.

The companies’ five-year sponsorship of the Boat Race has seen some firsts, including the move of the Women's Boat Race to the Championship Course in London with equality in stature and funding.

However, the donation of the title rights of the sponsorship to Cancer Research UK, thereby creating The Cancer Research UK Boat Races in 2016 and 2017, is a major boost to the charity, and it will benefit from branding on all crew kit for race day and training and will receive prominent branding along the Championship Course on the River Thames. In addition to this BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management will continue to support the charity and raise funds to support the vital research to help beat cancer sooner.

Sir Harpal S. Kumar, outgoing CEO of Cancer Research UK, said: “We are incredibly thankful to BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management for their incontestable contribution to Cancer Research UK over the past two years. I am very much looking forward to our continued partnership, which will help bring Cancer Research UK that much closer to reaching our vision of bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management’s Pull Together campaign has helped to spearhead the asset management industry into joining forces to support Cancer Research UK through a year-long series of fundraising initiatives called CASCAID, and it has already successfully raised GBP1.4m against its end of year target of GBP2m.
