Letter makes plea to rich over climate

Wealthy individuals and charities are being asked to donate more protect the environment and the climate, with a group of scientists writing a letter to the wealthiest hundred charitable bodies and families.

The letter, coordinated by Angela Terry of Climate Alliance, points out that currently only three per cent of philanthropic funding goes towards climate-related issues, and urges that funding be increased in order to avert an environmental disaster. The 11 signatories include the physicists Myles Allen from Oxford and Joanna Haigh from Imperial College; the psychologist Lorraine Whitmarsh from Cardiff University and Sir David King, former government chief scientist.
