Extinction Rebellion starts summer of protest

Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds and London are all to see protests over climate change organised by Extinction Rebellion as the group attempts to sway public opinion behind a faster decarbonisation in the UK.

Aiming for a net-zero level by 2025, the protests will encourage civil-disobedience including blocking roads and lie-ins in a self-titled 'Summer Uprising'.

The official website describes the Government’s 2050 target as an ‘alarmingly insufficient response’ for halting climate breakdown and biodiversity loss and notes that the United Kingdom, as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, could show leadership in climate protection.
