Emergency called on climate

A national climate emergency has been declared by Parliament, with MPs calling on the government to set a zero emission target by 2050 – currently, the pledge is to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent compared to 1990 levels by that date.

The call comes on the eve of the Climate Change Committee report and the motion is the first time a Government anywhere in the world has declared such a state. The motion was tabled by Labour, but the Conservatives did not oppose the motion.
